I had the privilege to collaborate with Yuhibuhi Forest Resort, a small hotel with a big heart, dedicated to empowering the local rural community of Pullumalai.

They operate entirely on solar power, locally source their food, and employ staff exclusively from the surrounding community, offering them alternative job opportunities to the illegal sand mining they were previously engaged in.

Moreover, we actively engaged with the local school, strengthening ties within the community and supporting educational initiatives. Education is the cornerstone of empowerment, and creating a broader worldview.
Our journey extended further as we shared our experiences and knowledge with the Australian High Commission in Colombo. These conversations showcased the power of collaboration and how, together, we can create a brighter future.

Volunteering in Sri Lanka, I had been exposed to diversified cultures, languages, and customs. All of these broadened my perspective and increase my awareness of global issues. I gained insights by engaging in various community services. Challenges such as poverty, access to education, healthcare, and environmental concerns inspired me to take action and make a positive impact in Gobal issues.

The journey involved working in unfamiliar and challenging environments. I learnt to adapt to new situations, navigate through cultural differences, and find creative solutions to problems. This experience definitely enhanced my flexibility, adaptability, and resilience, which are valuable qualities in both personal and professional life.
