SO, Ka Ki - Internship in Xi'an
Year , Major: Linguistics, Host Organization: Xi'an Qujiang Daming Palace Relics Region Preservation and Development Office

Programme: Global Internship Programme

The internship in Xi'an was fruitful and rewarding. I was given chances to be exposed and immersed in the world of Chinese culture through visiting numerous historical sites such as the The City Wall, Daming Palace, Terra Cotta Warriors, etc, and living in Xi'an for such a long period of time. I believe that it is a valuable opportunity for me to explore the rich history and unique culture of Xi'an, the ancient capital of China.

My internship experience at Xi'an Qujiang Daming Palace Relics Region Preservation and Development Office was also unforgettable. I was assigned to the administrative department of the office, involved in not only paperwork but also administrative reception, vocational training, etc. My writing skills of official documents and communication skills have been enhanced through practices. Besides, I read a lot of books about culture management and the history of the Tang Dynasty provided by the office. I could grasp a comprehensive picture of heritage preservation, my understandings of Chinese traditional culture and history has also deepened. What is more, through this internship, I was able to know more about the practical working environment and operating pattern of cultural institutions in Mainland China. It is believed that the experience would be a good preview of my future career.

Moreover, I made many new friends in Xi'an. They are all friendly and passionate in culture-related activities, which enable me to quickly integrate into the working environment. It must be the most memorable experience for me to acquaint with people from different backgrounds who have a kindred spirit in the journey. As culture-related jobs are not popular in Hong Kong, it is rare for me to encounter or even have an in-depth exchange with those senior and experienced workers. I still cherish the experience and will endeavor to pursue my future career.
