PANG, Simeon Sing Wan - Internship in Ireland
Year , Major: Psychology, Host Organization: FRS Recruitment

Going on an internship abroad has truly been an eye-opening experience, with many opportunities to learn and make new friends. People are generally helpful, nice and welcoming. Dublin is a friendly quaint city with all the convenience of a city in contrast to small towns but without suffocating crowded hustle and bustle of colossal megalopolises. It is home to the largest brewery in the world and one of the fastest growing cities with some of the youngest populations around the globe.

It it a great opportunity to experience a completely different culture. It has a truly immersive environment with fair number of internationals to be "dubbed" an international hub, home to branches of big conglomerates like Google, Microsoft, IBM, Paypal, Oracle, etc, and yet retain its distinctly Irish cultural identity without being overrun by internationals to create an immersive experience for visiting interns.

One thing that really stands out is the weather and the climate;  the sun and rain appears unpredictably and sporadically and even the hottest day is cold. Working there is unlike other places I have worked in before. I worked in the health department of a recruitment firm at the centre of town, overseeing the recruitment of doctors from oversees into Irish hospitals. My collegues are extremely nice, relaxed and laid back. During lunch, some of us would head out with our lunches to the large park nearby where over a hundred of people from offices all around would gather to lie on the grass to eat, chat and have a good time. At the office, all Fridays are casual dress days where the usual smart casual dress code requirement is overlooked and there's a tradition of playing music around the office to celebrate the coming weekend. All in all, it was a lovely and fruitful experience.
