OH, Hye Rin - Internship at PSCORE in Seoul, South Korea
Year 2, Major: BSSc Global Studies, Host Organization: People for Successful COrean Reunification

Programme: Global Internship Programme

Coming to PSCORE, I had many expectations and hopes considering how it was my first ever internship experience. As with any organization or company, there were positive and negatives, but the one thing that made up for the cons were the people I met. Through this opportunity, I was able to meet so many interesting people, all from different backgrounds and walks of life, who I was able to learn much from as well as make meaningful memories together with.

Beyond just the people, I was also able to learn so much from the organization itself, as a North Korean based NGO. Schools do not teach enough about all of the atrocities and history surrounding North Korea, and even as a Korean myself, there was much I didn't know about the other side of my country. However, with all of the resources I had access to, particularly the reports, articles, books and videos that could be found in every corner at PSCORE, I was able to gain so much more knowledge and insight about North Korea, information that is invaluable and impossible to measure its worth. As well, I was able to hone my skills as their graphic design and social media intern as I was constantly pushed to better my creative skills, particularly with designing promotional materials for their Digital Rights In North Korea report, where much of the content was quite sensitive in nature and unknown to the world. With multiple revisions and conversations about the topic at hand, I was also able to train my communication skills as I had to be proactive in seeking help whenever I needed it, not just when working but also beyond the office life in order to make lasting friendships with the interns I was with.

Working at PSCORE isn't easy, and it won't be fun all the time, but it's definitely an experience where you will grow and learn so much, which I think makes up for it all.
