Talking about the most valuable part of the internship, I would say learning more about the US culture.

I worked in the middle school adventure program which provided numerous chances for both the kids and myself to explore San Francisco. Not only will we venture into every corner of the city, but we will also go to the cities nearby. Like we went to Sausalito, where we engaged in activities like kayaking, aiming to nurture students’ potential. This let me know how the day of American kids is. More importantly, it allows me to compare the difference between the education system of Hong Kong and the US. I observe how can American children build up their confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills through the wide range of activities, and the guidance of teachers.

Also, this internship program offered me a precious chance to stay in an unfamiliar city for over 2 months, so it allowed me to delve deeper into the local culture, and also learn more about American history and lifestyle... Like when we visited Muir Wood, a national monument, with kids, the staff introduced the history of the forest, telling us the importance of the place to the rise of women's power in the US. These field trips provide me with valuable insights into the history and social background of the city.

It is inevitable to face difficulties during the internship, like language barriers. Sometimes I could not understand what my colleagues were saying, especially when it came to the slang and idioms. However, the native English speakers were always patient and understanding which improved my confidence and language skills. It makes me realize that people are always supportive if you are willing to speak and try. So now, I have become more courageous when tackling something I may not be good at.
