My internship with Humanitarian Affairs Asia has to be one of the most challenging, yet inspiring 7 months of my University life. For an intensive 7-month period, I poured my efforts with a team of 9 youth leaders from across the world, together, we brought 440 students from 44 countries to the United Nations in Bangkok, Thailand. My first highlight of the internship would be working with people from 9 different cultural background, such as Kenya, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Germany to name a few. All of us had different attitudes towards the same task, it was often challenging to find a middle ground while working. However, this team also allowed me to become open-minded and an effective communicator.

Moreover, this placement tested my resilience, problem-solving skills, and growth mindset every day at work. I enjoyed working with like-minded professors, and University staff from around 4-5 different countries, like Hong Kong, South Korea, and India to name a few. Throughout the project, I often received negative responses or no response after repeated calls and emails to University representatives. Although these situations made me feel incompetent, my mentor taught me to keep striving forward and never accept a negative response. I am confident to say that I am no more scared of facing rejection or reaching out to new people.

Lastly, one of my most precious memory would be of teaching local Thai students English at a public school in Bangkok. The smile of the students, the warmth of their hugs and their curiosity to learn more about the world will forever stay in my heart.
